An Eco-Friendly Upstate New York Spa

Making Environmental Stewardship a Priority

Mohonk Mountain House has always placed a high importance on preserving the natural world. When developing the spa wing, we wanted to bring the outside in to celebrate our stunning natural surroundings. Our 30,000-square-foot facility incorporates nature into all aspects of architecture, design, and decoration.

From more than 600 tons of Shawangunk stone, local timber, and cedar shingles, The Spa at Mohonk Mountain House took shape. An environmentally-sound geothermal system uses the constant temperature of the earth to heat and cool the building. This innovative system eliminates onsite emissions and is virtually soundless. We have also installed a 2,000 square-foot green roof/garden terrace that attract birds and butterflies as well as provide green insulation to the spa. Weather permitting, we hold fitness classes, yoga, Qi Gong and meditation classes on the green roof.

Wherever you look, the details are reminiscent of the surrounding forest. Exposed wooden beams hewn from trees from the local area, expansive windows, stone fireplaces, and carpet custom-designed to mimic the Mohonk Lily Pond create a peaceful atmosphere.
